The negligence by the workers of the Gangabai crematorium led to a fiasco for 2 families as one family took the ashes of a person who did not belong to their family. The family had just completed the process of immersion of the ashes, when they came to know that they had immersed the wrong ashes. The other family is now in a dilemma to what they should do with the ashes which they have. The said matter is related to the families of Jethanand Nathwani of Hirwi Nagar and Mishrikotkar family.
Jethanand’s mother had expired on Thursday and she was cremated at Otta number 16 and as per rituals, Jethanand reached the crematorium on the 3rd day (Saturday) to collect the ashes of his mother. Jethanand was shocked to see that the ashes were missing from Otta number 16 and upon speaking with the workers at the crematorium, he could not get a concrete answer. The members of the health committee of NMC reached the spot after which the workers of the crematorium started inquiring about the matter.
Later it came to the fore that Kantabai Premchand Mishrikotkar was cremated on Otta number 17 and her son mistook the ashes on Otta 16 as that of his mother. He had taken the ashes for immersion and had completed the process on Friday in Kanhan river. The members of the Sindhi community reached Mishrikotkar’s house on Saturday and narrated the sad incident. The Mishrikotkar family was also saddened with the news and had to return to the crematorium. They took the ashes which belonged to them and got engaged in the immersion process again!
Both the families are not at fault in this matter and the workers of the crematorium are to be blamed for this, who should be careful in providing information as the families coming there are already in shock.
