Prevalence of Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is increasing day by day. Â To improve the lives of type 1 diabetes, empowering them and their caretakers with knowledge through education are of prime importance. Education is an important key in the treatment of diabetes.
Sunil’s Diabetes Care n’ Research Centre (DCRC) in collaboration with the Diabetes Care Foundation of India (DCFI) has organized an education program for Type – 1 DM and their caretakers – 5thAnnual JDCON (Juvenile Diabetes Conclave) on Sunday, June 30, 2019, at Hotel Centre Point, Ramdaspeth, Nagpur from 9 am – 5 pm. Dr. Sunil Gupta and his team of DCRC & DCFI are consistently educating people with diabetes through Hello Diabetes Education program. This was the consecutive 25th year of Hello Diabetes Education Program.
The aim of JDCON was to educate people with Type 1 DM & – their caretakers about effective DM management and enable to live healthy lives.
The Program was inaugurated with the hands of Dr. Dilip Gupta, President Vivekanand Medical Mission, Sr. Clinician &Social Worker, and Girish Vyas, MLC, Dr. Kush Jhunjhunwala, IMA President and Pediatrician with the lighting of Samai at 11:30 am.
Dr.Dilip Gupta appreciated Dr. Gupta for continuously educating people with diabetes through mass education. He added that every diabetic should take diabetes as his friend and treat it with proper treatment.
Mr.Girish Vyas said that diabetes can be best managed with lifestyle modification and proper treatment.
Dr. Kush Jhunjhunwala said that this is the best way to educate people with diabetes. He added that the concept of JDCON –Accept it ….Treat it ….Control… it is perfect. He said that all Diabetics should accept that they are diabetic and should treat it and control it with proper management to live a healthy life. Like Dr. Gupta, every doctor should share their knowledge with the diabetics and make treatment more effective and acceptable.
Ms.Jazz Sethi, a type 1 diabetic from Ahmedabad talked on how to live happily with diabetes. She also added that as we celebrate our anniversaries we also should celebrate the day of diagnosis of our diabetes as dia-versary. Each and every moment of our success related to diabetes should be celebrated, she added.
Topics like pros & cons of insulin therapy and injection techniques, newer advances in diabetes management, psychosocial aspects, diet &Exercise, Dental & Retina care, etc were covered by experts like Dr.Sunil Gupta (Director DCRC), Dr. Sudhir Bhave (Psychiatrist), Dr. Ajay Ambade (Retina Surgeon), Dr Priya Kotian (Mumbai), Dr. Mohit Zamad (Oral Surgeon), and Kavita Gupta and Parvinder Bamrah, Bharti Wattyani, Anagha Shende ,Rupali Patil(Nutritionist).
Role plays were enacted by Vivek Nagrare, Dr.Shruti Zalke, Sangeeta Gupta, Pinaki Choudhary, Dinesh Zode, Mayur Awsare. The program was conducted by Dr.Sarita Ugemuge and Swar Gupta as Naradmuni. Â The team of DCRC worked hard for the success of the program. Around 200 Type 1 Diabetic and their caretakers were benefited by the program. Â Free Diabetes Identity card of Type 1 Diabetes, will be provided.
