IDEAS, a premiere architecture education institute in central India is promoted by prominent and experienced architects from city has established innovative, teaching and learning processes for enhancing, the creative and analytical qualities of students.
While doing so, the students are imbibed with, the ethical and moral concepts of commitment to the social welfare, environmental concerns, and development of parental city of Nagpur.
Keeping up with this tradition, IDEAS conducts every year, summers studies in various fields involving students, teachers and practicing architects, along with expert from various fields.
The culmination of these studies which are socially and environmentally relevant is in the form of exhibition meant for the benefit of citizens of Nagpur and surrounding region also. The students who are interested in carrying out studies in architecture also gets benefited by this exhibitions. The exhibition was recently organised at Rangayan Hall, Chitnavis Centre, Civil Lines, Nagpur.
The display included various summer studies such as – Art Appreciation Studies, Architectural Documentation Studies, Appropriate Technology Studies, Green Design Studies, Vernacular Design Studies, Rural Design Studies, Landscape Design Studies and Urban design Studies.
Art Appreciation Studies demonstrates the origin of Brass Brands and its association with the city of Nagpur right from British Raj till today.
The Architectural Documentation Studies have been carried out at Ajni railway quarters demonstrating the socio-economic fabric since the established era of railways at Nagpur and the subsequent changes which are occurred till date, providing the architectural glimpses.
Appropriate Technology Studies were carried out in terms of experimentation at IDEAS campus for understanding the indigenous and appropriate techniques whereupon the experiment such as ‘Inverted Saucer foundation’, ‘Bamboo Column’, wattle and Daub Wall’, Rammed Earth Walls’, ‘Wardha Block Walls’, ‘Bamboo trusses and filler slabs. These techniques provide the unique opportunity for creating experimental friendly and sustainable infrastructure.
Green Design Studies focuses its attention on the Nag river precincts. Students explored various means to understand water edges, water and built from interface from past and present and the possibilities to revitalize Nag River.
The Landscape Design studies focuses upon seeking inspiration from text describing constitution and usage of open space and its creative process of developing abstract through keywords from the text, leading to the design proposal of open space for identified relevant pockets. This could be a very good insight for developing Nagpur as a green and smart city.
Vernacular Design studies focuses its attention on sustainable architecture through this study and explores local architecture building tradition and practices and its relationship with ecology and culture.
Rural Design Studies were carried out in the villages and reflects the potential in Rural Areas in terms of settlement network, rural architect local traditions and qualitative and quantitative changes in rural areas for working towards long term benefits, the studies reflect the usage of space within the houses, along with multidimensional common spaces of the village as whole.
