Global Shapers Nagpur and Swacch Association have jointly launched a mega initiative for building capability and awareness on menstrual hygiene and safe disposal of used sanitary pads. As part of this ongoing initiative, volunteers from both the organisations jointly host menstrual hygiene workshops and distribute the ‘period kit’ to the participants at government schools and low-income communities across Nagpur city. The period kit comprises of biodegradable sanitary pads along with an information booklet. The booklet contains details about the science of and misconceptions regarding menstruation and has been prepared in consultation with leading psychologists and gynecologists from our city.
As India strides towards becoming a global powerhouse, it’s a sad reality that even today women across all age groups use unsanitary methods such as old rags or leaves to collect menstrual blood. In our country, where menstruation is still a taboo subject and where so many women succumb to menstruation-related diseases every year, talking up about menstruation and menstrual hygiene is necessary and important. The team is committed to reaching out to 25,000 young girls over the next one year. So far, 400 young girls have benefited from this initiative. Provincial Automobiles, a city-based organisation, has generously provided the financial support for this drive. We encourage more such good-hearted individuals and SME’s to join us in our quest to build a clean and healthy Nagpur city.
