Mahavitran has urged for caution while using electrical gadgets in public places or home, during the monsoon. There is possibility of electric poles being uprooted or snapping of electric cables due to heavy rains, causing short circuits. Caution should be exercised to avoid touching the electric switch board at home and it should not get wet.
In case of a short circuit, the main switch should be switched off immediately. Citizens living in metal sheet houses, should be very cautious and take measures for safety.
Animals should not be tied to electricity utility poles or to the stretch cables. Two wheelers should not be kept inclined against the pole nor should clothes rope for drying clothes be attached to it. Dish and antenna should be installed away from electric cables. Iron
should not be used on wet clothes.
After heavy rains with high winds, tree branches break and fall on electric cables or trees fall and bend poles, which results in breaking of cables. As there is a possibility of the cables being live, it should not be touched or efforts should not be taken to remove it. All accidents can be avoided by remaining cautious.
Mahavitran has started 24 hours call centres for rural and urban consumers. The toll free numbers are 1912, 1800233435 or 18001023435. Complaints can be made to these toll free numbers through any company landline or mobile.
The toll free numbers will also give information about heavy rains, technical faults in electricity supply or possibilities of accidents. Only the complaint is needed to be given from the registered landline or mobile of the consumer.
