The Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court has directed the Devendra Fadnavis government in Maharashtra to produce the status report of ongoing inquiry into the multi-crore irrigation scam, which also involves some political heavyweights of State. Justice Sunil Shukre and Justice Sriram Modak passed the directives while hearing into the case after a gap of nearly seven months. On November 28 last year due to some personal reasons, Justice Ravi Deshpande has recused himself from hearing the case. Hearing into the scam resumed, on Wednesday.
The high court directed the government to present the current status report of the investigation into the case and scheduled the next hearing on July 17. It is pertinent to note here that a NGO named Janmanch has filed a petition in the HC seeking action against the guilty. Civil contractor Atul Jagtap too has filed four petitions in the HC. In his petition, Jagtap had pointed out irregularities in construction of four irrigation projects in Vidarbha. All the projects were completed by the construction company of a NCP leader.
These works include Jigav irrigation project in Nadura taluka of Buldhana district, Raigarh river irrigation project in Chandur Railway tehsil in Amravati district, Waghadi irrigation project in Daryapur tehsil and Lower Pedhi project in Batkuli tehsil. NCP leader and former deputy CM of state Ajit Pawar and other senior government officers and contractors too are connected with this alleged scam.
