Life of a 26-year young boy pursuing his Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Mayo hospital comes to an end when he hanged himself at his hostel room, on Friday morning between 6.30 am to 7.30, claimed Tehsil police. Dr Manyu Kumar Vaidya, resident of Nehru Nagar, Haveri, Karnataka, on May 2, started his PG at Mayo college for MD (O&G).
A case has been lodged at Tehsil police station and further probe started. As per the sources, Manyu was going through a tough face and was in stress from past few times. Police said that a night before his death, Manyu called his brother, Chandrashekhar and allegedly spoke about his extreme workload at hospital.
Reportedly, Manyu sent a text message ‘Not able to handle the stress, ending my life’ to 4 people right before hanging himself, including his brother, around 6 am,
According to the College administration, Manyu had OPD on Friday from 8am to 2pm. But when he did not reach the ward till 9.15 am, an intern was sent to his room number 33 at the old hostel.
But after knocking the door repeatedly, the intern got no answer. As a result, unit incharge Dr Alka Patankar was informed who immediately sent senior resident doctors to Manyu’s room.
The senior resident looked from the window and found Manyu lying on the floor with the broken rope in his neck.
Medical Superintendent (Mayo) Dr Sagar Pandey, said, “The HoD Prashant Uike along with the students immediately went to the hostel and thereafter Tehsil police was informed around 9.45 am. Brother has been informed and family is coming.â€
