Life Skills Education, a programme jointly organized by Tribal Development, Rajmata Jijau Mission, Women, and Child Development Department, Health Department and UNICEF, will be providing training to more than 2,000 teachers in the academic year2019-20. These trained teachers will impart training to adolescent students studying in the aided Ashram schools. This is a combined effort of three government departments related to the development and protection of children.
This is the second phase of training as teachers from Government Ashram Schools were trained in the past. This training is conducted for teachers and students of Grant in Aid Ashram Schools.
Child safety as an important concept has been introduced for the first time as part of the training module during this phase.
Subject experts have undertaken trainers’ training. These trainers will be training the Ashram School teachers, which started on 1st July. Local officials inaugurated training in Nagpur, Nashik, and Amravati. Division-wise teacher training will be held at 8 training centers in the state. Approximately 2,228 teachers and superintendents from 557 aided Ashram schools across the state will benefit from this training.
This is a cascade model wherein trained teachers and superintendents will then impart life skills to the adolescent students of aided Ashram Schools. The training course is divided into three parts and this training will be completed in three phases.
The objective of the curriculum is mainly to make adolescent boys and girls studying in Ashram schools to be aware of concepts and information on overall health, proper diet, cleanliness, and self-protection. It is also to make them understand the importance of public hygiene; eliminating anemia; malnutrition; reproductive health; and the importance of decision making, self-assertion, and determination. Informing them about physiological, physical and cognitive changes during the period of adolescence and how to take care of them when they arise is also part of the modules.
This training is primarily focused on benefiting adolescents in the tribal areas of the State
