A workshop on ‘Healthy Organic Food and Rain Water Harvesting’ was held at Vidharbha Industries Association (VIA) on July 8. The chief spokesperson for the occasion was Supriya Deo and Sharad Palliwal.
Paliwal who is the President of Nagpur Garden Club explained the need for water conservation and the urgency that is required as the state is running out of water day by day. He explained, how to harvest the rainwater in a do it yourself way and how to filter water and then collect it in the septic tank.
A sheet was provided of the flowers that could grow in the rainy season by Deo, which even explained the time required for the growth of the plant and spacing required between the plants of flowers.
Deo a retired staff of Dharampeth Science College, explained the need for organic farming and how it can be done without using toxic chemicals and get better nutrients through it. She even told the uses of organic plants few of which are treating the external injuries or joint pain and even digestion.
Besides these, the plants are even edible in such farming which is rich in protein and other nutrients. Deo further explained the ways of farming and how to layer the soil and even showed the plants which were grown in her organic farming garden.
“During planting there should be a layer of coconut compost and vermicompost for better growth of the plants” said Deo during her workshop.
