Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) girls emerged champions in the One-Day Invitational Basketball Tournament — Sunday Singham – being played at the Police Headquarters Ground in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, on Sunday.
The open tournament was organized by the Subedar Late Narendra Singh Bais Memorial Foundation. In the day-long tournament five teams including four from various district of Madhya Pradesh and one Nagpur team participated. The Shankar Nagar based DKM girls’ team, who are the Nagpur district champions in the senior category, won the tournament easily and brought home a glittering trophy.
In the final, the DKM girls defeated Mahavir Basketball Academy-A, Gwalior, 33-17. For the winners, Shreya Dandekar emerged the top scorer with 12 points. She was ably supported by the timely efforts from Richa Kalraiya (6 points), Dhara Phate (5), Sughandha Singh (5) and Vaidehi Bhagat (4) did all the scoring. For Mahavir Basketball Academy-A, Gwalior, (Avantika (6) and Preeti (5) played well. The quarter-wise scores in favour of DKM read 13-5, 6-4, 5-3, 9-5.
Earlier in the semifinals, DKM girls defeated the B team of Mahavir Basketball Academy-A, Gwalior, 38-8. For the winners, Shreya Dandekar (8), Sughandha Singh (4), Sakshi Vakharia (4) and Astha Challani (4) played well. While Gwalior’s A team defeated hosts Chhindwara 22-18 in the other semifinal.
For her all round performance, DKM’s Shreya Dandekar was adjudged as the best player of the tournament.
The DKM team was trained by coach Dhiraj Kadao. Sakshi Ahluwalia was the manager.
