Special cells have been set up in Maharashtra for tracing the accused, who are absconding for years; State government informed the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court.
Additional government pleader Anand Deshpande submitted affidavits on behalf of Nagpur and Amravati commissioners and SPs of Akola, Chandrapur and Yavatmal district on Thursday informing the HC that police department had constituted special cells at division and sub-division level to find leads about untraceable accused.
A division bench comprising justices Ravi Deshpande and Vinay Joshi also directed the respondents to submit progress report on finding out accused persons who are absconding since years from five districts in the next hearing scheduled on August 1.
The HC was hearing a suo motu PIL (No 4/2019) based on the reports by district court judges, who submitted a list of accused who went absconding after securing bail in various cases, including serious ones in  Akola, Amravati, Chandrapur, Nagpur and Yavatmal districts.
