Rashtrasant Tukadjo Maharaj Nagpur University vice chancellor Dr Siddarthvinayak Kane has appointed Dr Vinayak Deshpande as the new pro-vice chancellor of the university. The post has become vacant after Dr Pramod Yeole was appointed as the vice chancellor of the Dr Babasahab Ambedkar Marathwada University on Monday.
Till now, Deshpande was registrar of the university. Dr Neeraj Khati has been appointed as acting registrar, again to replace Dr Deshpande.
Dr Khati had been appointed professor in LIT recently. However, Dr Kane had expressed trust on him and bestowed the key responsibility upon him. In the third major decision, Dr Anant Deshmukh, head of PG commerce department, was appointed as the dean of commerce faculty.
It was expected that some new face would be given the job as Dr Deshpande was holding the post of registrar. He was also holding the post of dean of the commerce faculty. These two posts fell vacant after the appointment of Dr Deshpande as pro vice chancellor. To fill both the posts, Dr Kane has trusted experienced Dr Deshpande and Prof Khati.
Sources said that the names of principal of Dr Babasahab Ambedkar Law College Dr Shreekant Komawar and political science department head Dr Mohan Kashikar were also making rounds for the post of pro-VC, but it did not happen as Dr Kane put faith on Dr Deshpande, who had even held the post of vice chancellor  A section of people were surprised on the elevation of Dr Deshpande as pro vice chancellor. Deshpande had held the post of vice chancellor and it was believed that he would not like to become pro vice chancellor and some other person would get the chance. But considering Dr Deshpande’s seniority there was a possibility there could be an issue if some other person be made pro vice chancellor instead of him as pro vice chancellor post is superior that registrar.
