Passengers travelling on trains are also bearing the brunt of water scarcity in Nagpur. After Nagpur Municipal Corporation decided to supply water on alternate days, the authorities concerned at Nagpur railway station have stopped filling water in trains halting here. Now, Central Railway is filling water in trains which originate from Nagpur while for remaining trains, nearby railway stations have been asked to fill water.
Officials said, nearly 135 trains pass from Nagpur railway station. The total number of trainings originating from Nagpur is just 15. Hence it was decided to stop filing water in nearly 120 trains, of which mostly run towards South, Mumbai, Howrah or New Delhi. Trains going towards New Delhi are being supplied water at Itarsi railway station while for trains going to the southern part of the country, arrangements to fill water have been made at Ballarshah railway station. Water in trains between Mumbai and Howrah is being filled at Badnera railway station.
Assistant manager (commercial) SG Rao said the decision was taken to tackle water scarcity. It was implemented from Wednesday midnight. Railway authorities would be meeting the NMC
officials to discuss the issue.
