The Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court has asked the state government why no reservation has been provided under 10 per cent EWS quota to students seeking lateral entry to second year of engineering course. What are the policies of the state government in this regard?, asked a HC Bench of Justice Ravi Deshpande and Justice Vinay Joshi and ordered the state government to file a reply by July 22.
In this regard, Utkarsha Deshmukh has filed a writ petition. Meanwhile, the State Government had informed the court about not giving reservation to economically weaker sections due to non-availability of seats from All India Technical Education Council. The court was not satisfied on this. The petitioner says that the seats reserved for admission in the direct secondary year of engineering courses have been reserved for everyone other than those belonging to economically weaker sections. This is discriminatory and violation of Article 14 of the Constitution.
