SVK Shikshan Sanstha an NGO working for Intellectually Challenged Adults recently, inaugurated it’s unique block printing studio ‘Art Therapy’ on 20th July. With an aim to promote and display the skills of people with intellectual disabilities, the block printing studio presented some of the most artistic products available in Nagpur. From printed kurtas and palazzos to printed trays and clocks, it is a one-stop-shop destination for any block print enthusiast.
It was attended by renowned guests like, Dr.Pratibha Mudgal, Dr.Harsha Jharia, Mrs, Vilasini Nair, Mrs. Madhu Singhi, Mrs.Neelima Bawne, and Mrs. Anasuya Kale who have been involved with SVK through its other such events and activities promoting an inclusive society. It was attended by almost 100 Nagpurians, all of whom commended the differently-abled artisans for their precision, creativity, and talent.
SVK is a local non-profit organisation, which works with people with intellectual disabilities towards their employment and professional training. Since 2017, it has introduced various professional opportunities for its beneficiaries, like packaging, labeling, and marketing of a 21-grain flour, millets, organic moringa teas, fashion shows, and modeling, and a block printing unit. For the same, it has worked with almost 200 differently-abled Nagpurians in furthering their career paths.
More than 20 Intellectually Challenged Beneficiaries of SVK were trained in techniques of Block Printing by PGDept.Of Fashion Design, LAD College, under the able guidance of Dr.Harsha Jharia, Coordinator and Former Vice Principal, LAD College.
