“The illegal immigrants in the country are growing almost every year. One can easily see them settling in various regions of the country, right from Kerala to Jammu and Kashmir. Hence, there is right now a need of larger immigration task force, as the burden falls on the policemen,†said eminent Adv J Sai Deepak.
He was speaking at Manthan’s, ‘Illegal immigration: Challenges to Indian indenture and the way forward’ at Chitnavis Centre on Sunday.
“Illegal immigrants in India are generally masked and passed off as refugees. It is a question of concern as to how, these people coming illegally in the country have open access to India. The future generations are definitely going to pay the price of this problem,†he added.
India is a civilisation state and not a nation state. Civilisation represents that a country has travelled far, it has a journey and a history, added J Sai Deepak.
“Each subculture has its own place, and it is thus the duty of the nation to protect this space. Hence, these subcultures are at a position to decide who can be a part of the country and who cannot,†added Adv Sai.
Illegal immigration alters the demography. In this hour of need, it is the citizen who need to decide whether they want the burden of this artificial population over them, he said.
“It is a sad fact, that the illegal immigrants, Rohingyas enjoy better sanitation conditions than Pakistani Hindus and Kashmiri Pandits. People need to understand that these immigrants have settled in the regions which are most vulnerable. It should be an eye-opener that these illegal immigrants have settled even in Jammu and Kashmir. The fact that they are getting documents proving the citizenship of the country is troublesome,†opined J Sai Deepak.
He also added that citizenship act defines illegal immigrants but it is surprising that it does not define, ‘refugees’. He opined that it is the labours and the people residing in the slums that face the brunt of these illegal immigrants. Their jobs, existence, and living is in threat.
The only solution which J Sai Deepak opined was that the burden of these immigrants must be shared. However, he said that India has helped the most to tackle the problem of immigrants which did not get the necessary attention.
The talk was followed by an interactive session. CA Satish Sarda feted Adv J Sai Deepak. Ankita Deshkar conducted the event while, Sagar Mitkary gave the vote of thanks.
