Nagpur is termed as the Tiger capital of India and with All India Tiger Estimation-2018, released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on International Tiger Day on Monday. Country witnessed a rise in Tiger population, which is indeed a matter of pride. The count has risen from 2226 to 2967, which signifies a rise of about 33 %.
Meanwhile, as per the reports doing rounds on the internet, sourced from the news agency IANS, the doubling of India’s tiger population between 2006 and 2019 is being welcomed as a ‘good sign’ by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, according to his deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq.
“We have a Sustainable Development Goal which encourages the preservation of biodiversity and of all species including, in particular, those that are endangered. So, it’s always a good sign if endangered species are, in fact, being protected,” Haq told reporters on Tuesday.
In their opinion, the increase in Tiger count will benefit in the conservation of the endangered species.
