The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) recently approached the Union Health Minister demanding strict action the recent row over the food delivery service of Zomato saying that it is most unfortunate that a non-issue of Zomato has been made an issue by some people having vested interest. The traders body said that a section of people is trying to divide the trade and commerce in the country into communal lines by way of making it an issue. Such efforts for bringing a bad name to trade.
The Confederation of All India Traders also reiterated that business is the one prominent section in the country which is mostly secular. Confederation of All India Traders National President B.C Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal while condemning the attitude of Zomato in the instant case said that it was wise on the part of Zomato to cancel the delivery respecting the consumer preference but absolutely there was no need for Zomato to bring such incident in light with a detailed statement. “It gave opportunity to a certain section of the people to flare up the issue on communal lines. It appears that Zomato committed such a mistake in its lust of getting publicity.
A case should be registered against Zomato for attempting to disrupt communal harmony in the country,†CAIT said in a statement. Both Bhartia and Khandelwal said that this incident has raised a question whether Zomato has complied with rules and regulations of Food Safety & Standard Act and Rules which states that the vehicle which carries the food should have a license, the person carrying the food should have a medical test and he should possess the medical certificate with him.
“The container carrying food should be properly hygiene. It is also to be noted whether the police verification of delivery boy has been done or not and all these complains lies on Zomato,†Confederation of All India Traders pointed out. Bhartia and Khandelwal asked the Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan to issue a notice to Zomato and other like companies, because most of them are not following the rules of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and police verification of delivery boy in case of online sale, is never done.
