Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA) under the auspices of BFI appointed ad-hoc committee is organising Mayor’s Cup Maharashtra State Sub-Junior (U-13) and Junior (U-18) Basketball Championships for the boys and girls simultaneously at various venues from August 17 to 23.
Addressing media persons NMC sports committee chairman Pramod Chikhale and NDBA Secretary Bhavesh Kuchanwar said around 2000 players and officials will be participating in the championship. From this championship, the Maharashtra teams will be selected for the nationals. So far 32 boys and 25 girls teams in sub-junior and 32 boys and 28 girls teams in junior sections have confirmed their participation.
Kuchanwar said as  many as nine basketball courts belonging to various affiliated units of NDBA will be utilised. Over 250 matches are scheduled to be played. The matches will be played at Nutan Bharat Yuvak Sangh (NBYS), Nagpur Amateur Sports Association (NASA), Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana, Players Basketball Gymkhana (PBG), Pawanbhoomi Krida Mandal and Guurudeonagar Krida Mandal (GKM).
In addition the indoor stadium of the divisional sports complex will be utilised depending on rain. The NDBA and NMC will provide free lodging and boarding to all the players at MLA Hostel.
For the successful conduction of the championship an organising committee under the chairmanship of NDBA president Sandip Joshi has been formed. NDBA working President Pranay Ghate, Shiv Chhatrapati awardee Shatrughna Gokhale, convener of the tournament Virendra Ranade and technical committee chairman Dr Dhananjay Welukar were also present at the press conference.
