Sairaj Nayse beat Mayuresh Bhutki of Thane 21-8, 21-13 to enter the Under-10 boys singles quarterfinals in the Maharashtra Sub-Junior State selection badminton tournament at the Modern College PDMBA Sports Complex, Shivaji Nagar, in Pune on Friday.
In a one-sided U-10 boys singles pre-quarters, Sairaj dominated his opponent from the word go to reach the last eight.
Sairaj, a Standard IV student of Narayana Vidyalayam, got off to a flying start and was leading 7-0 in the first game. He maintained the lead and wrapped up the opener 21-8.
In the second game, Sairaj was leading 11-6 at the break before finishing the match with 21-13 score.
Nagpur’s Anirudh Bhat also made it to the last eight. Anirudh downed Kapil Jagdale 21-4, 21-7 in 14 minutes.
However, another city shuttler Aayush Adey lost to Kritiya Patel 15-21, 16-21. In the U-10 girls singles, second seed Fizza Akbani sailed into the quarterfinals.
Aaditya Gadge defeated Ajinkya Gadekar 21-11, 21-13 to reach U-13 boys singles pre-quarterfinals. Riyan Balsaraf thrashed Sahil Wadhwani 21-4, 21-7 to make it to the last sixteen.
Aaditya Gadge and Ameya Naktode and Jiva Pillai and Varun Kolte reached U-13 boys doubles pre-quarters. Krisha Soni entered the U-13 girls singles and doubles pre-quarterfinals. In the U-13 boys singles third round, Sairaj Nayse lost to Binish Sood 13-21, 7-21 in 26 minutes.
