The Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) is set to become a history soon. The State government has decided to scrap the NIT on Tuesday, hence paving way for its merger with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). The decision was taken in a crucial Cabinet meeting held in Mumbai.
The demand to abolish NIT was long pending. Locals were facing a lot of inconvenience and confusion due to the presence of two authorities in a city.
Taking the issue into cognisance the government had decided to abolish the NIT and merge it with the NMC. However, due to some technical issues this much awaited merger was pending. In the last Cabinet meeting, State government has showed keenness to complete all the formalities needed for the merger.
Sources said , government was willing to release the GR by August 14 to officially scrap the NIT and merge it with the NMC. Sources said, all the property in possession of NIT would be transferred to NMC, which would take care of these property and maintain records.
