Demanding cancellation of Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s cleanliness charge drive, a group of opposition party congress corporators met NMC Commissioner, Abhijit Bangar on Tuesday. The corporators claimed that cleanliness is the fundamental right of the citizens. Therefore charging fees for such a basic fundamental right is not acceptable.
Sandip Sahare who led the protest said that Kanak resources are responsible for collecting garbage from every household in the city but in many areas the garbage van are irregular leaving the roads dirty and pile of garbage littering in the localities.
Sahare further alleged that the annual total fee collected from the residents is much higher than the annual income of a slum dweller.
The opposition demands an immediate scarping of the drive. Ujjwala Bankar, Nitin Sathvane, Sanjay, Mahakalkar, Manoj Sangole were some of the opposition party members supported the protest.
