This year’s 9th BSD donor Nagpur zone 40th Liver retrieval
Liver of a 50-year-old woman, named Babita Surendra Dongre, resident of Uppalwadi, has been donated to a mid-aged male recipient. The organ donation was performed at the New Era Hospital. As per the information received, Dongre was on dialysis and wished to have a kidney transplant. As luck would have it, she herself became a donor for liver following an intracerebral bleed. However, both the kidneys and Heart were not found medically fit for transplant, so it was decided to not retrieve it.
Meanwhile, husband Surendra Mohan Dongre & brother Vinod Meshram were willing to donate all possible organs, & gave written consent to the Zonal Transplant Coordination centre-(ZTCC). Later, the guidance was provided by (ZTCC) Nagpur President- Dr Vibhavari Dani, Secretary- Dr Ravi Wankhede. Executive committee member Dr S.J Acharya, who counselled the family to donate organs. Retrieval and Transplantation were coordinated by Nagpur Zone coordinator Mrs Veena Wathore.
