Chandrapur: Taking adequate measures for the people who have been leading their lives in the highly polluted air of Chandrapur District, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has issued closure notices to around 16 coal depots in Chandrapur and Ghugus.
The notices of MPCB came out as a big shock to the owners of coal depots. However, the concerned departments have already been instructed to stop the water and power supply to all these 16 depots. Â Moreover, the proposal of closing another 8 coal depots is likely to be approved very soon.
MPCB had started efforts to control the air pollution in Chandrapur and Ghugus by closing as many as 30 coal depots in Chandrapur and Ghugus. Out of these, 24 coal depots have been included in the list of the illegal depots and those violating the terms and conditions defined by MPCB.
According to the sources, Chandrapur Divisional Office of MPCB had submitted the proposal of closing all 24 coal depots to the concerned senior officials. However, the officials granted permission to close 16 coal depots. As a result, the Chandrapur Divisional Office issued the closure notices to all 16 coal depots.
