Save Merit Save Nation group who has been actively working on saving the merit based education system in India for transparency in the selection process in colleges have stages a week long hunger strike at Samvidhan square.
The hunger strike started on August 19 will end on August 24 followed by a mega rally from Yashwant Stadium to RBI square on August 25.
Dr Abhijeet Ambhaikar one of the representative of Save Merit Save Nation informed that “Our agitation is on the excessive increase of the reservation seat due to which many meritorious students suffer. Government has increased the reservation seats but has failed to increase the number of seats in all the colleges. This decision has caused a chaos among the students as they are worried about their future. We do not oppose any cast and want them to have all the basic facilities”.
“Since the decision of increasing the reservation for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC), it has created a havoc among students, government should have taken slow step and increase the number of seats as well to create a balance in the education system. We all are aware that education is one of the most necessary elements in life but with such blunder in admission process how can one get what they deserve. Hence through this hunger strike we are agitating against the decision†he informed.
On August 25 a mega rally has been organized in which thousands of students, parents, business personals will be present to support the cause.
