Slum soccer team of India recently went to Cardiff Wales to participate in the 17th edition of the Homeless World Cup 2019.
Eight outstanding men and woman players were selected from across India, in which Ravina Suryawanshi and Sheetal Sahu were the two-woman player of Nagpur in the team and made Orange City proud.
Ravina and Sheetal both played in the forward position for the team in a face-off with teams like USA, Netherlands, Hungary, Romania, Sweden, Peru and Belgium.
Ravina informed that “since last four years I have been associated with Slum Soccer and it was my privilege that I have been playing under the banner, over the year I have learnt many things. It was my passion to become a football player and represent India in futureâ€.
“It was my first Homeless World Cup match in which I played in forward position. During matches being in a forward position it was quite difficult to tackle with opposite team members as they were much more experienced, although with the support of my team we did our best and won many matches. My dream is to play for team India and teach football to the slum kids and promote the game among the masses†she added.Â
Sheetal another forward player of the team who hails from Nagpur shared her experience; she informed that “I got an opportunity to play for the team in this world cup. My journey in football began two years back when I enrolled in the Slum Soccer where I learned new techniques. I had a passion for the game from a young ageâ€.
Speaking about their playing strategies Sheetal informed us that with proper planning and coaching we managed our game during the tournament. My aim is to play for the Indian football teamâ€.
The Live Nagpur team wishes the Slum soccer team the best for all their future matches and makes our country proud.
