Supreme Court Collegium has finalised an elevation of two city lawyers Adv Avinash Ghaorte and Adv Anil Kilor as additional judges of Bombay High Court on Monday. The elevation was finalised after personal interviews were taken by Supreme Court Collegium which consisted of Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Sharad Bobde and Justice NV Raman. Bombay High Court has sanctioned strength of 94 judges including 71 permanent and 23 additional judges.
As on date, there are 51 permanent and 19 additional judges and there is a shortfall of 20 permanent judges and four additional judges. In its meeting held on March 11, the Collegium had recommended making Justices Sandeep K Shinde, Rohit Baban Deo, Bharati Harish Dangre, Sarang V Kotwal, Riyaz I Chagla, Manish Pitale, S K Kotwal, Arun D Upadhye, Mangesh S Patil, A M Dhavale, P K Chavan, Murlidhar G Giratkar, Vibha V Kankanwadi, and S M Gavhane, working as additional judges presently, as the permanent judges.
The elevation of both the lawyers as additional judges has been warmly welcomed in the legal circles here.
