In view of the not enough water in Totladoh and Navegaon-Khairi projects, the water supply committee of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation has decided to continue the alternate day water supply till August 31 in its meeting on Thursday.
Water supply committee chairman Pintu Jhalke said that the decision to continue with the water cut or not would be taken in the next meeting on August 31 depending on water position in Totladoh and Navegaon-Khairi. If the water level did not go up in the two dams, the people of the city would fight with the severe water crisis in the future, he said.
The decision to impose a water cut was taken in July. If there had been enough water in the two dams, the water cut could have been stopped, But the two dams did not show the required level of water rise hence it had been decided to continue with the water cuts, he said.
Gate of Chaurai dam is a closed Chaurai dam in Madhya Pradesh that has 93 percent water.
Water from the dam was released on August 15 due to the rise in water level. It led to a collection of water in Totladoh. But the dam has closed its date on August 22.
For water supply in Nagpur, power generation, irrigation and supply of water in Klameshwar, Totladoh needs 600 mmc of water while it presents it has 82.33 mmc of useable water.
