District captain Rutuja Shende bagged two silver medals in 3000 metre and 2000 m steeplechase events in the Under-20 girls category on the second day of Maharashtra State Junior Athletics Championship at Shiv Chhatrapati Krida Nagri, Balewadi in Pune on Saturday.
A member of Track Star Athletics Club Rutuja Shende staged a spectacular comeback after suffering an injury during Khelo India event and won two silver medals. In the 3000 m steeplechase event she clocked 10.35. 86 seconds whereas she secured second place in 2000 m event with a timing 7.25.01 seconds.
She has been trained under the guidance of Ravindra Tong. Similarly, Nagpur district relay team bagged silver medal in 4×400 m. The team was represented by Geeta Checharkar, Divya Nakhate, Meena Kalambe and Sakshi Ambekar.
In Under-20 girls 100 m event, Sakshi Ambekar of Maharashtra Krida Mandal finished fourth with a timing 13.26 seconds. In the same age category, Rohit Jha achieved fourth place in 3000 m event with a timing 10.12.93 seconds. He is the regular member of Track Star Athletics Club.
