Selu police have registered a case against Project Officer of M/s Afcons Infrastructure Anil Kumar and owner of MP Construction Ashish Daptary for illegal excavation of Murrum soil of worth Rs. 100 crore from the 103 acres of land owned by Cozy Properties Pvt Ltd.
As per the work order for the contract, the project is of Rs 3,220 crore. Cozy properties have around 1,000 acres of land which is situated in Kelzar village and nearly 1.50 km long stretch of the Samruddhi Mahamarg passes through this land. The Afcons Infra had appointed around 12 sub-contractors for the road construction work and MP construction is one of them.
The offence was registered under Sections 379, 447, 427, 120 (b) and 34 of Indian Penal Code on the basis of complaint filed by Nilesh Singh of Cozy properties. Â The illegal excavation of Murrum soil came in light when engineers of Cozy properties visited the site.
When enquired about the same, the villagers disclosed that heavy machinery of Afcons Infra are deployed at the site for transportation and excavation of the same by sub contractor of MP constructions.
The illegal excavation has been going on since last two months, the villagers told the engineers of Cozy Properties after which Cozy properties immediately lodged a complaint with the District Collector of Wardha and in charge of Selu Police station on July 30
Enquiries made by the company with the DMO of Wardha revealed that all other sub-contractors of Afcons Infra have obtained permissions for mining of murrum from private lands except MP Constructions.
A press release of Cozy Properties stated that the real beneficiary appears to be Afcons Infrastructure. The company appears to have made crores by illegal excavation of Murrum soil. The District Administration also received complaints of illegal excavation of Murrum soil. The District Collector of Wardha has formed two committees under the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Wardha and Arvi to probe these complaints.
