The first and the oldest Fire station of Nagpur City is ready to go under reconstruction soon. According to the sources the fire station situated in the central parts of the city is in a bad condition due to which the safety of the workers is at risk.
Usually, Nagpur Municipal Corporation, categories such as dilapidated buildings under danger zone, but it seems that the authorities are ignoring the dangerous conditions of the building and the safety of the fire officers. NMC has not even done a structural audit of the building since a long time.
The condition of the fire station is worsening day by day. The irons are rotting due to rusting and the plaster of the building is scrapped. The building has lost its beauty.
Ganjipeth Fire Station was built in the British era and structures constructed in that time have been put under heritage but fir station situated in the central part of the city if, put under heritage building list than it won’t be possible to propose for the reconstruction of the building.
According to the sources, many letters have been issued to NMC by fire officials in this regard. A proposal has been made wherein the basic layout of the reconstruction plan has been given. It has been mentioned that instead of 25 quarters, 12 quarters of 1 BHK for employees and 2 BHK for officers will be constructed. Separate restrooms for female and male employees, 3 garage, 3 offices, and storeroom will also be constructed in the new layout of the fire department.
