A circular has been issued by Maharashtra Primary Education Council wherein it states that the govt has decided to increase the joint school grants under the overall education campaign.
The grants will be made available on the basis of the strength of the students. Due to the increase of the grants the low performing schools are facing difficulties as they are unable to meet the basic needs of the school.
The grant will be available from Std 1st to Std 8th on the basis of the strength of the students. For schools upto 30 students, a grant of Rs. 5000 per year will be given, schools having 31 to 60 students will get Rs. 10000, whereas schools having a strength of 61 to 100 they will be eligible for redeeming Rs 25000 while Rs 50,000 for the schools with 101 students and Rs 75000 for schools having more than 250 students.
A grant of 1 lakh will be made available to the schools with strength of 1000 plus students. The grants are to be spent on repairs and maintenance, sports equipment, sanitary matters, laboratories, playgrounds, electricity bills, drinking water facilities and other necessities like study material, decor for classrooms, and other stationery.
Total of Rs 2.52 crores of grants will be distributed among 1.538 schools. Out of these 1,538 schools, 758 schools have less than 30 students so a grant of Rs 5000 only will be given to these schools.
Teachers of the low performing schools have demanded to increase the grant as they are unable to fulfill the basic necessity of the schools and are failing to provide a better environment for the students. For them to pay all the bills and for the repairs and maintenance of the building they’ll need more than Rs 5000.
Dinkar Urkande, Vilas Kalmegh, Meenal Devendrakar, Pushpa Pansare, Nitin Bokade, Vijay Jadhav, Ashol Bnate, Sneha Bangde and others have appealed to the government to consider their demand for increasing the grant of the schools with low strength.
