SJAN celebrates National Sports Day
To promote sports and sportsperaons at grassroot level, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) should adopt needy sportsperons and take care of their diets, felt former city mayor Pravin Datke.
He  was speaking during the National Sports Day celebration organised by Sports Journalists Association of Nagpur (SJAN) at its office on Thursday.
SJAN felicitated national deaf and dumb athlete Nidhi Tarar who has won several medals in athletics, cycling and swimming. Noted sports organiser Girish Gadge handed a cash purse of Rs 10,000 to Nidhi for her year-long diet and training whereas SJAN gave her kit bag.
Gadge also said that a special ministry for para sports and specifically-abled sportspersons should be formed by the government. “It should be headed by international para-sports medal winner,” added Gadge.
Datke said municipal corporations of cities like Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune has adopted a few sports and sportsperaons who really need help. “Such attempt should be made by NMC. Initially, sports like kabaddi, kho-kho, athletics should be adopted by NMC,” said Datke.
On the occasion, SJAN President Kishor Bagde, secretary Suhas Nayse, treasurer Nilesh Deshpande, SJAN members, Â Vinod Tarare, Kamal Waghmare, Principal, Deaf and Dumb School and others were also present.
