Ace long distance swimmer of the city Jayant Duble excelled in 76th World’s Long Distance Swimming (81 km) Competition  at Bhagirathi river on Sunday.
The event was organised by Murshidabad Swimming Association under the auspices of Swimming Federation of India. Duble clocked 12.29 minutes in 81 km event and achieved seventh place.
The swimmers from 11 countries participated in the competition in which Duble was the only swimmer from Maharashtra. Former international swimmer and Arjuna awardee Bula Choudhary honoured Jayant Duble with medal. West Bengal’s Devat Patra achieved first place with a timing 10.57 hours whereas Vishawanath Adhikari, also from West Bengal emerged runners-up  with by achieving the distance in 11.02 hours.
Earlier at the age of 13  Jayant participated in 19 km race an completed it within two hours. Last year he was qualified for 81 km event but failed to achieve any position. Sports commissioner of State Omprakash Bakoria, commissioner of Maharashtra Kamgar Kalyan Mandal Satish Dabhade, Pappu Thakur, coach Dr Sambhaji Bhonsale, Madhukar Adhav, deputy director of sports Subhash Rewatkar, DSO Avinash Pund and others have congratulated him for his success.
