Ojas Khamele and Yashaswi Bhosale triumphed in their respective categories in Nagpur District U 19 (Juniors) Open and Girls Selection Chess Tournament at the DNC Sports Complex here on Sunday.
Ojas and Jay Sawalakhe earned six points each at the end of the seventh round but on the basis of better tie-break scores, the former was adjudged champion. Jay had to be satisfied with the runner-up spot. Ojas was held to a draw by Sumedh Ramteke on the top board in the final round. Jay outwitted Manthan Kale to take his points tally to six.
Sumedh and Dishank Bajaj also ended up 5.5 points but the former claimed the third position, while Dishank, who defeated Vedant Kalbende in the last round, placed fourth. In the girls section, . Yashaswi Bhosale, Bhoomi Kariya and Shraddha Bajaj completed scored four points each. Yashaswi was declared champion whereas Bhoomi and Shraddha secured second and third spots, respectively.
Tejaswi Bhosale placed fourth. The top four players of both the categories will represent the district in the state tournament. The prizes were distributed by NDCA vice-president Shreyansh Kamdar,  NDCA sectarary  Kalyan Barat, VCA secretary SN Shriwas, NDCA organising secretary  Umesh Panbude and chief arbiter Pravin Pantawane.
