E-1 tigress was finally captured on Sunday evening. Earlier, the tigress had created havoc in villages in Melghat. Principal Chief Conservator (Wildlife), Nagpur, had granted permission to tranquilize and capture the beast to save human lives and domestic animals. After capturing, the tigress was sent to the Gorewada zoo at Nagpur on Monday.
On August 30, the tigress had killed a man from Dadara village and injured a 7-year-old girl along with a farmer and a cattle.
As soon as Principal Chief Conservator (Wildlife), Maharashtra State, Nagpur, granted permission under section 11(1)(a) of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 the officials of Melghat Tiger Reserves, immediately swung into the action to catch the E-1 tigress.
Teams of Rapid Rescue Action Force, Melghat, Melghat Tiger Project, Pench Tiger Project, Nagpur, Rapid Rescue Action Force, Amravati Forest Department carried out the search operation. Â Elephants were also deployed in the jungle area to search the tigress.
A squad late on Sunday evening succeeded in tranquilizing the tigress. She was later caged. The tigress is safe and sent to Gorewada Zoo on Monday.
The search operation was successfully carried under the guidance of M S Reddy, Additional Chief Forest Conservator and Field Director, Melghat Tiger Project, HS Ghormade, Divisional Forest Officer and Vinod Shivkumar, Deputy Conservator of Forest. Hiralal Chaudhary, S B More, Dr Rashmi Gokhale, Dr Subodh Nandgawali, Dr Chetan Chetan, Dr Sharad Palkhade, Amol Gaoner, Santosh Kasdekar, Rajesh Dhikar, Mangesh Mawaskar, Maniram Chaturkar, Tulsiram Kasdekar, Jeevan Dahikar, SanjayDhikar, Shrikant Gawai, Vaibhav Gurav, Feroj Khan, Asif Pathan, Mukesh Jawarkar, Anil Chimote and others executed the operation.
