Program to be held on Sunday at Samvidhan Chowk
The Nagpur Bench of Mumbai High Court on Thursday ordered the State government to grant permission to hold the program ‘Remove EVM, Bring back ballot, Save Nation’ to be organized at Samvidhan Chowk at 2 pm on September 08, 2019 by India Against EVM Forum, Nagpur. The relief was granted by Justices Pradip Deshmukh and Pushpa Ganodiwala.
Sunil Jawade, a member of forum had on September 3, applied to the Sitabuldi police for permission to hold the program and it was rejected on the same day. The reason for rejection of the permission was given that the Prime Minister’s visit scheduled on September 07 and hence no such permission may be granted between the period from 6 to 8 September for such program.
The forum and Sunil Jawade had filed a writ petition before the High Court against this controversial rejection of permission. The Prime Minister is leaving City on the same day for his onward journey for the next programs. Hence there is no reason to reject the permission to a program to be held on September 08.
This program has been held before peacefully at various places and the participants in the program are all law-abiding citizens and there are no criminal offenses pending against any of them. This is 10 days campaign and it is going to be launched from the Samvidhan Chowk and terminate at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. So the petitioners had requested the court to grant the permission and cancel the decision of the Sitabuldi police. Adv Firdoss Mirza and Adv Akash Moon appeared for the petitioners.
