After having successfully launched commercial operations along Khapri Metro Station to Sitabuldi interchange in early 2019, Maha Metro Nagpur is all geared up for its next mission starting of passenger Services from Lokmanya Nagar Metro Station to Sitabuldi Interchange. This new line would provide transport facilities to college students travelling on that road and also the employee and workforce engaged in MIDC, Hingna.
The segment from Lokmanya Nagar Metro Station to Sitabuldi Interchange is called Aqua Line, for the number of water bodies which are located along the metro alignment. Ambazari Lake is located next to Subhash Nagar Metro Station and Gandhi Sagar Lake lies close to Metro alignment along Central Avenue. Nagpur got its name from Nag River, which also runs parallel to the Metro alignment and hence, Aqua Line name is derived from the presence of these water bodies.
So far the project has achieved 82.5% of overall progress. The final 8.32 km of Aqua Line and 7.215 km of Orange Line are scheduled to end by mid 2020 and end of 2020 respectively.
From 1 June, 2015, when the actual physical construction commenced the project has created many benchmarks including reaching fastest tutorial run in just 27 months, opening 13.5 km of orange line in 44 months opening 24.5 km of project in 50 months, country’s “the greenest metro” with 65% of energy needs met by solar power, 100% water recycling, 100% rainwater harvesting, bio digesters at all stations and 60% revenue coming from non fair box revenue.
