Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) is ready to take over the power distribution operations from Spanco Nagpur Discom Limited (SNDL) from Sunday. A notice has been sent to SNDL regarding the issue and few employees have also been deployed at SNDL since Saturday morning.
According to the sources, MSEDCL officials have scheduled a meeting on Sunday to complete the remaining paperwork of the takeover. The decision of takeover was taken after SNDL requested MSDECL to take-over as they were not able to meet the financial requirements anymore.
MSEDCL has prepared a list of employees who are to be transferred to SNDL area immediately. Project Director, Dinesh Saboo arrived in the city on Saturday to supervise the activities.
Due to the flurry of activities taking place at a time and the lack of co-ordination between MSEDCL and SNDL, there was no power in most of the areas in the city on Saturday. Over 1700 power-related complaints were registered on Sept 7.
Recently SNDL employees had staged a protest against the SNDL office over the disbursement of their salaries and therefore had requested MSEDCL to postpone the takeover until their due were paid.
SNDL is finding it difficult to arrange funds for the operation of their day to day activities let alone the payment of outstanding dues of the employees.
