The main drinking water source for the Nagpur City, Totladoh dam has almost reached its maximum capacity of stocking the water. Looking at the situation of the dam, the irrigation department officials have decided to open its gate by Monday night. Opening the gates of this dam will increase water storage in Kamptee’s Khairy dam in just 24 hours.
According to the recent reports, if water stock in Totladoh is even 35 percent of the livestock and that of Khairy at 50 percent then Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) does not have to worry about drinking water supply. This amount of water is sufficient to meet the city’s water demand for the next two years.
A few months back it was seen that Orange city was facing a water scarcity problem on a serious note. But looking at the current rainfall at Pench river and Kanhan has lead to the opening of gates in the Chourai region of neighboring Madhya Pradesh and by Monday night the water stock in Totladoh has reached almost 90 percent of its designed capacity.
