The Government Medical College and Hospital have decided to make identity cards mandatory for hospital staff, doctors and employees with an aim to curb the antisocial elements in the hospital. The decision has been taken for the security of patients and their relatives.
The decision will come into effect from September 23. The security guards will check the ID cards of the staff, employees and doctors round the clock at the hospital gate and premises and would remind them to wear it in case they miss it, hospital Dean, Dr. Sajal Mitra informed.
According to sources, last month the hospital security guards noticed few pathology lab agents who were taking advantage of the patients in the hospital and were manipulating them to conduct tests in private labs. Taking the matter seriously, the hospital authorities decided to make the ID cards compulsory for the doctors, staff and employees.
