Science Association and Co-Curricular & Cultural Committee of Sevadal Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur, observed World Ozone Day today as a mark of propagation of environment and health awareness.
To mark this day a Guest Lecture by Mr. Kaustav Chatterjee, Founder, Green Vigil Foundation, Nagpur was organized at Sevadal Auditorium, Sevadal Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur.
In his address to the gathering, Mr. Kaustav Chatterjee dated back to the historical underpinning of Montreal Protocol in which a wide-ranging discussion was held on the substances that cause depletion in the ozone layer in the atmosphere and its consequences on human health. He focused upon the prime agents like the usage of CFC’s that contribute mainly to the depletion of the ozone layer and the measures that were taken for the healing of Ozone layer.
Chatterjee appealed to the students that serious measures need to be taken in order to curb the menace of environmental pollution and degradation. This includes the use of solar energy, renewable energy, and green energy. He especially applauded the work done by the Post Graduate students of Environmental Science and the volunteers of Green Vigil Foundation who steered a mass awareness campaign on the occasion of Lord Ganesha idols immersion in the natural water bodies in the city which pollute and threaten the aquatic life.
On this occasion, Prof. Pravin Charde, Principal of the college showed his gracious presence. Dr. Sanjay Pal, Assistant Professor, Department of Environment Science, Mrs. Seema Nimbarte, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology and the teaching staff members of the college were also present for the said guest lecture.
