Central railway along with the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) approached the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to ban the movement of vehicles through Railway Overbridge situated in Ajni.
Ajni Railway overbridge has already crossed its life span and is now too weak to handle a load of heavy vehicles. To avoid any mishaps, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has put caution boards on both the ends of the bridge. But despite efforts from the civic authority, the citizens are clearly seen ignoring the caution boards and a heavy rush is seen passing over the bridge.
VNIT suggested to put on the barricades on both the ends of the bridge and to put huge gauges on either side of the bridge to restrict the vehicle from entering into the bridge area.
During peak hours, it is seen that the bridge is jam-packed by the vehicles, both heavy and light and to dodge the traffic two-wheeler drivers are seen driving through the footpath.
This rainy season, the bridge has become a vulnerable path to drive through, as the cracks and the structure have increased making the path fatal, in addition to this the vibration through vehicle boost the degradation of the bridge.
The question raises here is when will the concerned authorities take the note of such damaged bridges and roads?
