Mega Star Amitabh Bachchan, will receive India’s highest film honour – the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award – this year, tweeted Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday evening.
“The legend Amitabh Bachchan, who entertained and inspired for two generations, has been selected unanimously for Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The entire country and international community is happy. My heartiest congratulations to him,” Mr Javadekar wrote in his tweet. Actor-politician Rajinikanth congratulated Mr. Bachchan with a tweet: “Congratulations dear Amitabh Bachchan Ji. You richly deserve this commendable honour.”
A tweet of congratulations also arrived from “proud son” Abhishek Bachchan and “excited” daughter Shweta Bachchan Nanda. “Overjoyed and so, so proud!” wrote Abhishek while Shweta captioned her post for her “Papa”: “Whose your Dada (Saheb Phalke)? Uncontainable excitement, pride, tears, and general hysteria! Congratulations Papa.
All the bigshots of films industry from Karan Johar to Anil Kapoor congratulated Amitabh Bachchan for his marvelous achievement.
Amitabh Bachchan has also won four National Film Awards for Best Actor through his illustrious career, last winning it for his performance in 2015 film Piku. Amitabh Bachchan currently appears on TV as the host of Kaun Banega Crorepati 11. He was last seen in crime-thriller Badla. The award was last given to actor Vinod Khanna in 2017.
