The Joint Forum of the Airport Authority of India Employee’s Association staged demonstration to protest against proposed privatisation of Nagpur and other airports in the country on Wednesday.
IAUU joint secretary general D.B. Satpute said staff unions have been opposing the privatisation of airport. The Central government has decided to privatise airports without taking the employees’ unions in confidence. To protest this policy, they had earlier staged a dharna agitation during the lunch hour from September 18 to September 22. On Wednesday, they upped the ante by staging a demonstration.
Staffers also raised slogans against the Central government’s decision and demanded that the decision to privatise the airports should be taken back.
According to Satpute, the Central government has decided to privatise Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Trivandrum, Lucknow, Mangalore and Guwahati airports along with Nagpur. “Several employees in these airports may loose their jobs because of this decision. Hence, we urge the government to reconsider this decision. The sit-in protest against privatisation will be held till September 27,†he added.
