It has been reported that the MSRTC is facing a serious problem in employee uniforms, especially the hike in the cost of uniforms. Despite the fact that MSRTC is having a shortage of 5000 employees from the last four years, the cost of the uniforms has gone up by four times.
In the past one and half years, the cost of the uniforms has increased from Rs.20 crore to Rs.73 crore. However, most of the employees are not satisfied with the provided uniforms and also raised concerns regarding the fitting.
Till one and half years ago, the cost of cloth and stitching were limited to Rs 20crore and now it is touched to Rs.73 crore. As per the official source, most of the employees were feeling uneasy with the uniforms due to its fitting. Moreover, the technical employees have been given light colour dress that gets dirty quickly.
About one and half years ago, a Mumbai based company was given the tender for uniforms that included multiple colours. Different colours of uniforms were given to different sections of the employees. Women employees are facing more problems in fitting. As per information, 40 % employees in the eight depots of Nagpur workshop division are yet to receive uniforms. The officials said that due to the lack of vehicles, they are not able to send the uniforms in time.
Currently, MSRTC has 1.05 lakh employees and among them, 75000 employees get the facility of uniforms that includes driver, conductor, TI, ATI, Supervisor, constable, Mechanical staff and security guards. In the last 50 years, the MSRTC had dress in khaki and blue colours. For that, the employees were given cloth and they got it stitched as per their fittings.
