Recently Mahamicrocon 2019, XXV Maharashtra state Chapter conference of Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists was organised by Dept. of Microbiology, NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences &Research Centre Nagpur and Vidarbha Association of Medical Microbiologists, at NKPSIMS &RC Nagpur.
The theme of the conference was ‘Emerging Role of Microbiologist from Bench to Bedside’
The conference was inaugurated on 21st September 2019 at the hands of Chief Guest Dr. Madan Kapre, Director, Neeti Gaurav Clinic in presence of Hon’ble Shree Ranjeet Deshmukh, Chairman, VSPMAHE and Dr. Subhash Deshmukh, Vice Chairman VSPMAHE and Dr Kajal Mitra, Dean, NKPSIMS as Guests of Honour Dr. G. S. Karande, President of State IAMM, Dr. S. R. Patil, Secretary, Dr. Chhaya Kumar, Treasurer of IAMM and Dr. Sachin Deokar, President of VAMM as special guests. Dr. Vilas Thombare, Organizing Chairman, welcomed the delegates. Dr. Neena Nagdeo, Organizing Secretary, proposed the formal vote of thanks. The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Abha Pimple, Dr. Kalpana Date, Dr. Anuradha Deshmukh, and Dr. Anjali Akhuj.
Key Note address on Role of Microbiologists from Bench to Bedside was delivered by Dr. Chand Wattal Chairman, Dept of Clinical Microbiology Sir Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi.
The conference proceedings commenced on 20th Sept.2019 with two pre-conference workshops, one on Antimicrobial Resistance Detection which was co-ordinated by Dr. Yagnesh Thakar and the other one on Mycology, by Dr. Deepak Thamke. A CME on ‘Sepsis’ was also organized which was attended by microbiologists as well as clinicians.
The conference commenced with the Presidential oration by Dr. Geeta Karande from Karad on ‘Influenza Pandemic’ while Dr. Hardas Pathak oration was delivered by Dr. Kishor Ingole, Professor at Govt. Medical College, Jalgaon.
Over 300 delegates from Maharashtra and neighbouring states participated in this conference. As many as 95 Young scientists presented their research work as Oral or Poster presentation.
The two days conference schedule included the recent topics in infection control, antibiotic resistance and Molecular Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases. State-level Undergraduate Quiz in Microbiology was conducted by Dr. Navin Kaore, Professor, Raipur Institute of Medical Sciences, Raipur. The state-level quiz was won by students of Govt. Medical College, Nagpur. A Quiz for postgraduate students which is the special feature of Microbiology conference was conducted by Dr. Meena Mishra, Asso. Professor, Govt. Medical College, Nagpur.
All the participants were immensely benefitted from the experience shared by eminent faculties from all over India which included Dr.Vikas Gautam, PGI, Chandigarh, Dr. Chand Wattal and Dr. Navjeet Singh from Delhi, Dr. Jayanthi Shastri, Dr. Chhaya Chande, Dr. C.N.Chaudhari, Dr. Shashir Wanjare, Dr. Roopa Vishwanathan and Dr. Kavita Khadke from Mumbai, Dr. Rajesh Karyakarte, Dr. Maithili Kavathekar and Dr. Vikram Padbidri from Pune, Dr. Yagnesh Thakar, Dr. Ashwini Tayde, Dr. Nikhil Balankhe, Dr. Gopal Agrawal, Dr. Kamal Bhutada, Dr. Tanuja Manohar, Dr. Anant Singh Rajput and Dr. Meena Mishra from Nagpur, Dr. Vijayshri Deotale, Dr. Deepak Thamke and Dr. Rahul Narang from Sewagram, Dr.Navin Kaore from Raipur and Dr. Rajendra Surpam from Chandrapur. The two-day conference culminated with healthy academic discussions and sharing of a lot of knowledge about various infections, their causative agents, mode of their diagnosis and measures for the treatment and prevention.
New Governing Body of Maharashtra State Chapter of Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists was elected and installed in the GBM held during the conference. Dr. Neena Nagdeo Prof and HOD Microbiology, NKPSIMS was installed as President, Dr. Anuradha Deshmukh, Consultant Microbiologist as Secretary and Dr. Rajendra Surpam as Treasurer for the year 2019-20.
This event was successful because of the hard work done by Dr. V. R. Thombare, Dr. Kalpana Date, Dr. Umesh Hassani, Dr. Ujjwala Dehankar, Dr. Rajesh Dehankar, Dr. Rashmi Mahalle, Dr. Shubha Gade, Dr. Sangita Bhalavi assisted by members of Vidarbha Association of Medical Microbiologists led by President Dr. Sachin Deokar and Secretary Dr. Anjali Akhuj (Raut). Senior microbiologists of the state, Dr. A. A. Pathak, Dr. Vilas Jahagirdar, Dr. Vivek Agwan, and Dr. Uma Tendulkar also provided their valuable inputs during the academic deliberations.
