The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has recently announced the increased fines for spitting and urinating in public places on its social media account, and it has got mixed responses from the public. The civic body is set to hike the fines for these two offenses from Rs 100 to Rs 200 and Rs 200 to Rs 500 respectively. As per information, the civic chief Abhijit Bangar has come forward for this movie. Due to the upcoming assembly polls, the election code of conduct is in force, and the newly framed fines will come into existence after the election and standing committee’s green signal.
The civic body has commenced to take penalty from the citizen for making nuisance since December 2017. As per sources, till September 29, the nuisance detection squad of NMC has caught 984 persons for spitting in public places and collected Rs.89, 000 fines. And almost 1,308 citizens were caught for urinating in public places and recovered a fine of Rs 2.04 lakh.
However, the activists have criticized the NMC move saying that the poor people are victims of this and they even don’t possess enough money to pay the fines rather, NMC should provide better civic facilities to curb the menace.
