Dr Madhavi Khode Chaware (IAS) Commissioner of Textiles, in a recently organised press conference, provided information regarding the identification of original and machine-made handloom fabrics. Dr. Chaware said that buyers should be aware of duplicate handloom cloth. Therefore, the buyers should cross-check the quality of the real handloom cloth before buying it as duplicate items are being widely available in the markets.
She informed that handloom cloth gives soft feeling upon touching it while the cloth made by machines show stiffness. Apart from this, when the cloth is made by hands, there is no consistency which is reflected in the cloth if it is made by using machines.
