The increase in construction work going in the city has developed huge pollution-related problems with increased amount of Particulate Matter (PM) 10. Speaking on the seriousness of the matter, Dr. J.S Pandey, Chief Scientist, Science Secretary and Head Centre for Climate Sustainability and Skill Development has quoted that “the local warming is on its peak. One can see the atmospheric changes in the city in recent times. The monsoon arrived late and continue to destroy several cities across the country.
The elasticity of a product or a being has particular limitations. If it is stretched beyond its limit it will not come back to its original shape or size. Same goes with the relocation process of the trees. For constructions of the road and Metro stations, many trees in the city were cut down despite of knowing the disturbance it will create in the ecosystem.
The ozone layer in the troposphere is a threat and is developed due to harmful gases inside it. The effect of this has been causing many leaf diseases which has been noticed in the plants of the city and its outskirts. The effect of depletion of Ozone layer can be seen in plants as they slow down the production of oxygen level and have started producing new infectious substances inside them.
It can be said that the earth is getting mutated as it has been drastically changing its patterns. The ecological balance has been disturbed in a very wrong way and its effects can be seen as live happenings in front of us, said Pandey.
He further stated the gateway to the atmosphere provided by these plant structures allows the free transport of unintended gases. Air pollutants such as sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide and oxides of nitrogen may invade the leaf through stomatal pathways.
